Summer Pieces By Orla Kiely

The newest collection from Orla Kiely is very impressive: there are lots of outfits, from outerwear to swim suits – she has it all. There are dresses, skirts, blouses, shorts, coats, fancy pants – and all of it is in intriguing and delicate prints. Yes, the patterns and hues seem to be the core of the summer collection as there are a really some incredible print combinations in this collection. Kiely, who is originally a textile designer seems to enjoy what she does and especially likes to experiment with various prints:

Yes, creating something new is always enjoyable. I must say though, some designs are instant – very quickly you know it’s going to work and that’s great. Then other ones you really have to spend a long time going back to it and working on it and that’s tough.

The colors of the collection are generally neutral and refined, except for some occasional pops of color, from canary yellow to radiant blue with incredible green and peach highlights. Despite some of the contemporary pieces, the collection has a very distinct retro style. Maybe it is the cuts and some of the prints, maybe it is the unique approach and daring combinations, but there is definitely a personality in each piece. Although the collection is available for quite a while, only now when it is finally summer, we can truly appreciate how appropriate some of the outfits are and how original is Kiely’s experimental approach to fashion.
