One of the Spring 2013 trends is metallic finish in clothes, footwear, and accessories. It divides between smooth satin metallic finish and a metallic foil one. The first was used widely in clothes while the latter could be seen more in footwear and accessories. Ocassionally there were metallic dresses embellished with beads and sequins.

Satin, shiny, glossy and colorful could be seen in many collections. Lanvin created a line of satin dresses and ensembles and Alberta Ferretti used it to add shine to her water-inspired Spring 2013 collection. Satin can be hard to wear as it shows creasing and it’s shine is hard to handle. To pull it off try balancing out the shine with matte clothes or accessories, or you could try wearing satin in the evening as it can look too dramatic during the day.
Jonathan Saunders Spring 2013
Jonathan Saunders created a couple of hologram items for his Spring 2013 collection. One of them is this silver skirt paired with subtly shiny tan long-sleeved top. Other designers like Donna Karan went for silver foil effect in the skirt and footwear. At Burberry metallics were colorful and came in clothes and footwear alike.
Jenny Packham Spring 2013
Jenny Packham created a metallic boatneck dress embellished with the metallic details. Other brands like Etro decorated their metallic dress with sequins and also colorful polka dot decorations.
A metallic dress is an ultimate eye-catcher and it often appears on the red carpet. It’s a great garment to wear for a special ocassion.

Metallic shoes were all the rage at Spring 2013 runways. Even if the metallics didn’t make it into clothes the shoes were given all the shine. Sandals, pointed pumps, and metal cap toes could be seen at Viktor & Rolf, Dries Van Noten, and J. Mendel.

Bags also come in metallic finishes. At Lanvin there was a gold hollogram clutch, at Dries Van Noten a silver foil clutch and Moschino went for a rectangular bubbled handbag. The Spring 2013 bags also come with metallic studs and sequins.
Metallics are a great way to add an eye-catching accent to your look. The Spring 2013 monochrome color palette invites a touch of metallic finish in the accessories while satin garments allow for more daring and bright Spring 2013 outfits.
